Things that DRIVE ME CRAZY (Part 1)

Today I was reminded of something that really bothers me...
SMOKERS... Why is that smokers throw out there cigarette butts?
(and for the record, not ALL smokers do this but lets be honest, most have or still do this act everytime that have a cancer stick)
Do they not realize that it's littering?
Do they not care?
I mean, if I was in a car with a smoker and I took my drink cup and just tossed it out the window, what do you think they would do? I am pretty sure they would say, what the hell dude, you just threw out a bunch of trash... YET it's ok for them to do the same? Worse acutally because there piece of trash is ON FIRE!!!
WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!?!?!

I would like to now give you some more reasons why you shouldn't throw burning pieces of trash out your window!
  • Over 750 million cigarette butts littered into our environment and waterways each year.
  • The most COMMONLY littered item is the cigarette butt. Many smokers believe that cigarette butts are not litter - and decompose quickly. THIS IS WRONG. The plastic filters can take up to 15 years to decompose!!
  • Under California Health & Safety Code 13002 it is illegal to discard a cigarette butt on public or private property. Yet the 2000 California Coastal Cleanup data collection results revealed that more than 230,000 cigarette butts were collected in just one day.
  • Cigarette butts have been found in the stomachs of fish, whales, birds and other marine animals which leads to ingestion of hazardous chemicals and digestive blockages. Approx each year thousands of animals strangle or choke from cigarette butts.
  • Every 12 minutes a fire starts from litter of a cigarette butt.
  • Annually, Washington State DOT spends $1,250,000 to pick up and dispose of littered cigarette butts.
  • Globally approximately 5.2 trillion cigarettes are manufactured every year. In developed countries (or in markets where indoor smoking bans have been introduced) almost 1 in 3 cigarette butts end up as litter.
  • and finally Cigarette butt litter is the world’s greatest environmental litter problem

Do I need to say more???

So I'm a stalker and read people's blogs when I don't want to work. I couldn't help myself from saying AMEN to this post. It's so funny because just today I was walking to get some breakfast and this lady I passed by tossed her cig into the street. I was totally annoyed and felt like saying, "There's a cigerrette can RIGHT THERE!" Freaking EVERYone smokes in New York and despite the nastiness and health hazards to me, the littering alone is obnoxious. I hear you!!
