Poor Petrey

Yesterday was a sad day...
Well let me start by telling you about the previous day *Sunday which was a great day! We found and rescued a baby duck! Maybe the cutest thing I have ever seen!

We spent all day cuddling, playing, and holdling him. He clung to us very quickly and in a matter of hours would follow us around the house. He would snuggle up in your neck as we watched TV... Needless to say we were excited to have a newest memeber to the Lemons house.

We came home Sunday night from a work event that I had and took him out of his box to play some more... He was chirping up a storm and seemed so excited to see us! After a little more bonding we decided to call it a night so we snuggled him up in his little bed box and placed in on the night stand next to Matt... he started chripping a ton so we figured he was cold or just missed us... I told Matt to take him out and hold him for a while to warm him up... Well a few hours later I woke up and asked Matt where the duck was... he replied "in his box, he's fine" and sure enough we woke him up from talking and he started chirpping again... Matt told me to be quiet so he would go back to sleep...
Well the next morning is when a sad thing happened! Matt woke up and looked in the box and the Duck was not in there and he looked down at the bed and he way laying there... Dead!
(I'm seriously fighting back tears as I write this!)
Apparently Matt thought he put him back in his box when in reality he was still on the bed and when Matt went back to sleep he must have layed on him.
All day yesterday Matt and I were crying like little kids! We felt so bad! We never thought we would be so sad over an animal we had only had for a day but this little duck touched our hearts!
We get sad and teary eyed everytime we look at these pictures and every time we think about how he followed us around the house. And every time we hear a bird chirp it reminds us of his chirp!

Poor little duck!
We're so sorry!
